Missing Man’s Car Found In Canal

 Oct 4, 2013

PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA – A missing vehicle of a man was found Thursday morning in the Charlotte County canal.  The man’s car had been missing since 1986.  County employes were at the canal near Rampart Boulevard and Navigator Road, in the Deep Creek area of Punta Gorda, around 10 a.m. when they discovered  the 1982 Corvette.  It belonged to Terrance Paul Begin, who was 26 at that time, when he went missing  in November 1986.

The initial reports from 1986 indicated that Begin disappeared under suspicious circumstances and foul play was a part of his disappearance. The reasoning for that seems to have been that he apparently spoke with his roommate  and told him at the time he would pick him up but never showed up.  He apparently left all his belongings behind, including medication. Even though CCSO, other agencies, family and friends looked for him, there was no sign of him or his vehicle.  The conclusion at that time was that those were suspicious circumstances. 23603717_BG2
There was no sign of Begin in the Corvette, according to detectives. They have notified his family of the findings. Detectives and crime scene technicians are still investigating.

The grand jury will see if there is enough evidence to charge the former officer.   A news conference will be held at 3 p.m. outside of the Voles County courthouse in DeLand.

The state attorney’s office has been investigating Marlon Brown’s death since July 2013, but ultimately decided to have a grand jury review the evidence.

Brown was killed in May after Officer James Harris ran him over with his patrol car.  Brown was running from police for an apparent seat belt violation when he was killed.

The Brown family accepted a $550,000 settlement with the city but they still want Harris to face charges.

Harris was fired from DeLand Police Department in July.

Updated News:  The State Attorney’s Office announced the grand jury won’t indict the former DeLand police officer, who ran over and killed a man, on criminal charges.
